Greenspot in a red world
I hope this blog will meet you on some safe ground. I hope to persuade you to join us in the green party. If my scribbling finds you wondering about where we are heading then I will count it a successful endeavor. First a bit about why I want to bend your ear. Foremost in my desire is to encourage you (and me) to keep on doing our best for ourselves and our community. In the end it all comes back to where I live most of all. I think the mother of all life is the good earth we live on. Now, that said, we, all of us can do a better job at home of taking care of what comes in and what goes out. Perhaps the best way to find common ground is to use a line from a disney movie, " all drains lead to the ocean."
You and I are part of nature. Embedded in the very fabric of life with all of god's creation. I do want all of us to be mindful of that fact. If you feel like me, then that should be pretty well summed as , nature is good, nature is very good. the resources we use today, and will use tomorrow must be seen against the back drop of 7 generations from now. Yes that seems a long way off. It worked for the cherokee nation, it will for us also. Christians are reminded to be stewards, I will count myself amongst them. We are reminded to serve the sick, the poor, widows, orphans and those in prison. The green party is the answer to those prayers for me.I hope that it can be for you as well.
These are the ten values that guide the party in what we do.
1. Grassroots Democracy- every human being deserves a say in the decisions that affects his or her life.
2. Social Justice and Equal Opportunity- all people should have the rights and opportunity to benefit equally from the resources afforded us by society and the environment.
3. Ecological Wisdom- we must support and encourage a sustainable society both locally and globally.
4. Non-Violence- We have to learn new patterns of solving our dissagreements. We must work to eliminate weapons of mass distruction, and demilitarize without being naive about the intentions of other governments.
5. Decentralization- Concentrating the wealth and power in the hands of a few has given us, economic crisis, environmental distruction and militarization. We support the restructuring of institutions to give us democratic control at the individual and local level where we serve the the most.
6. Community based Economics- We want to reward bread labor not just passive investment, the homemaker has investment in society. We want to restrict the size and concentrated power of corporations without discourageing efficiency and technical innovation.
7. Feminism and Gender Equity- We have inherited a male dominated, winner take all, might is right political system. We call for moral conscience and honesty in our society, finding more cooperative means to live in community with all people.
8.Respect for Diversity- We acknowledge the cultural variety we share with others, ethnic, racial, sexual, religious and spiritual conditions. We encourage that diversity, it adds value to living.
9. Personal and Global Responsibility- Individuals must act to improve thier personal well being, we seek to join with other peoples and organizations to find ways forward with peace, economic justice and the health of the planet.
10. Forward Focus and Sustainability- Our thinking should be toward long term goals. We should turn toward improving quality of life rather than open-ended growth.

I can tell it will take a long time for Demoblicans to admit that they won the 2ooo election. But then why do I care since?See http://www.gp.org/organize/spoiled.html The gent. you are refering to is the libertarian candidate. Banderick and David Cobb found massive voter fraud in OHIO. The demoblican kerry is a part of the law suit( although I hear kerry wants to withdraw lately) in Ohio ex..Cobb vs Blackwell.

The problem I have with the green party is that it is a grassroots party with no roots. I have never seen a local green run for anything. Even in a progressive city, there is hardly ever a local green candidate. Then in 2000, Ralph Nader ran for President and pulled too much of the vote away from environmentally friendly Al (every vote was significant, well, every counted vote was significant). Then in 2004 Badnar*who?* was a joke. You can't start there! You have to start at the local level and work up. According to one green website there are only 136 offices currently being held by greens.
I used to respect Ralph Nader a great deal. My feelings now can be best described by Bill Maher: he handed Nader a picture of O.J. Simpson in 2004. He explained that O.J. Simpson was a hero to many people for many years and that it only took one incident to fuck all that up and for a hero to fall.
