It does not have to happen
I am sitting here feeling wretched. I suppose the only way to explain is to let you see a bit through my rosey glass. I was watching the idiot box(the news, even worse!) and I could not help seeing the destruction that seems to be devouring the poor parts of paris. my very first reaction was nodding my head in agreement with chirach'sstatement about "the laws must be obeyed, we are a land of laws." Yep,I was agreeing with law and order. Atleast it would seem that way. Something inside of me kept nagging for attention. Look closer it said.
I don't suppose the 30% + unemployment rate has anything to do with unrest. It could not have anything to do with institutionalized rascism. France is afterall, the largest muslim population in Europe. About the same time that these thoughts were blasting through my conscience, the interior minister's comments about "the poor being thugs" flashed up. Comments made prior to the riots.
Here is the place I start feeling miserable. I continue to struggle with how much is enough. I feel like the rich man asking Jesus, how I can get to heaven? The story in Matthew about the rich man and shoving a camel through a needle's eye well up in my soul. Would the church side with Jesus, or more likely with the Pharisee's? I wonder how many of our brothers would eat if we didn't have to add that new wing to the church? What would happen to the community kitchen if the money was raised as aggressively for feeding the poor as for building more buildings? Maybe the people of france will follow that sound wisdom and start training some of the youth for jobs. Instead of arresting them and filling the jails.
So you can see the dilemna I constantly wrestle. Or maybe some of it. I do not want people breaking things. I wonder if the same people burning and looting would be as angry if they had work to do? And I wonder how much longer before the inequality that keeps mounting here in America will hold off, burning and breaking things? The republicrats along with the demoblicans help have gutted the middle class. We do not have a voice in the decisions that our lives. Our politicians are not listening. They don't have to, think about the last time an incumbent lost?
O'course Zack will keep his promise to not run in 07' right? The folks do not have a voice in D.C. Now if you have a lobbyist then maybe you can get access. What you don't have a lobbyist? Say it isn't so? The middle class, the folks who have to go to work everyday. Not because of want, but because of need. Those of us sold out by the republicans and democrats, who will represent us? I urge you to look at the green party!
Abit of rambling from me. I just feel so wretched when I take the easy turn, the comfortable lapse and justify somebody elses problem. I have enough guilt in my life, RC upbringing and all. It just cannot be somebody else's problem, experience tells me the broken , hollow excuses for selfishness won't standup in the light.
