Christ is a liberal

Too much to do, and nowhere near enough time. That statement is the timeline of my exsistence. I have this unswerving ability to find ways to say yes. Why am I going on, you wonder? I show my face regular at church, just not that often at sunday school. When I do, I inveriably run off at the mouth. Which as you probably know I do when I am awake. Regular attendance would help me I guess. Where does it say in the gospel, bomb your neighbor before he bombs you? Now I could have sworn it said Love. Does anyone other than me think something is a bit off kilter ? When is this insanity that has gripped this nation going end? Is the lust for more oil really that compelling or is it something else? Maybe the 20/80 rule has run amuck. You know 20% of the worlds population controls 80% of the worlds wealth just does not seem satisfying come to think of it. Back handed with the right hurts, turning the other cheek seems sort of masichistic. Long story short, I am looking forword to next weeks sunday school class. Christ was a liberal! I guess all those years of parochial schools I did not really pay attention.
isn't it funny most everyone I talk to says that Christ advocated non-violence . Then in the next breath say something about victory in Iraq then we can have peace.?!? I am still waiting for the Christian response? Who would advocate war in christ's name? Who can justify killing? Murder is a mortal sin! The gospels don't say anything that justifies what this government is doing. Maybe someone could enlighten me?

am a kook because I follow the christ?I do not remember anywhere in the accounts of jesus where he said, now go forth and do violence.? Funny, who is being a revisionist? No one anywhere has said that Saddam was anything other than a murderous criminal. A cold blooded killer! Surely you are not supporting or advocating that we also should be cold blooded murderers? The 1980's would have been the time to begin fighting. Surely after all we have learned about the current war nobody believes it has anything to do with noble intentions? Lust for oil or access to oil, little else. When are we going to intervene in hiati, or dafur. Why didn't we stop rawanda? Why did we wait so long to interveve in macedonia? The democrats are just as quilty as the republicans, both have blood on their hands. No one I know of would say that 7 million deaths did not happen. It is the conservatives and many politicians that turned a blind eye to hitler's genocide till the 1940s.

It's not loving to allow others to cause suffering. What did Christ do, just roll over and say to the devil, "Ok, do what you want, I won't raise my little finger"? No--he did what was necessary to stop evil and violence and destruction.

And why don't you revisionists complain about the American destruction of the poor Nazi party, if you are going to be complaining about poor oppressed pathetic Saddam & Co.? I mean, the Allies went out of their way to bomb cities--civilians included--in order to stop alleged genocide in Germany. It's kooks like you that are saying "The Holocaust never happened! It was all set-up!"

Sheesh. Go hang out with the Hamdems.

Ganhdi said it much better than I can.
"What difference does it make to the dead, the orphans and the homeless, whether the mad destruction is wrought under the name of totalitarianism or the holy name of liberty or democracy."
Mahatma Gandhi

Alice: try to be a little less simplistic, if that isn't too much to ask.

Obviously "Christian" is a loaded term when one starts applying it to the actions of others--be it you, me or the government. There are a lot of different ideas about Christianity and what actions they should entail.

Without getting into that, I think it is dangerous to say Jesus was a liberal...or conservative for that matter. It seems like a reverse order to me. Shouldn't we be trying to define biblical views on goverment rather than taking our own and applying them to the Bible?

[sarcasm on]If Jesus was a liberal, then God is a conservative and the Holy Spirit is a centrist...because we know that in total the Trinity must be politically balanced, right?[sarcasm off]

The answer is simple. This adminstration wraps itself in the cloak of christianity, but there is nothing christian about it. Actions speak much louder than words.

It is done.

Along those same lines, love without justice (i.e., discipline, tough love, doing the hard but necessary thing, etc.) isn't really loving at all. That doesn't mean there isn't a time for grace and mercy, but for example if that's all I gave my kids then they'd be running the house instead of me and headed for trouble down the road.

Not all killing is murder. Both Old and New Testaments seem to be pretty comfortable with the state wielding the sword against the lawless. Christ himself is described as he who brings a sword against the nations, ruling them with a rod of iron.

There are times when loving your neighbor means going to war.
