Not war but peace
I am constantly disturbed by my fellows that can be so callous, cruel with human life.
My friends, brothers and sisters in christ, I beg you please listen to what you advocate. War is a sure way to death, for a people or a nation.
I am far from an educated man, I came to the ground I stand on late in life (45yrs). I read in the gospels, mark reports christ saying, "love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you." mathew says of christ, "love your niehbor as yourself."
luke reports christ saying, "Love your enemies, do good to those who hate you." Those same words are preached over and over in the bible. the old testament is filled with the results of war, greed and lust of power. Everytime the jews have used violence the punishment has been the same. I would only point out the TEMPLE has not been rebuilt since the romans raised it . There is a 1/4 of the worlds population that testifies to that.(Islam) It is worth pointing out that everytime non violence is reported as a direct quote of christ.mathew points out how we are to deal with each other in the 18th chapter. Nowhere does it say, now be violent and go kill.
"When will our consciences grow so tender that we will act to prevent human misery rather than avenge it?"

Ah Gilbert! A fine a man hasn't written in years. Cs Lewis often mentions him. I would not confuse non- violence with cowardice. That quote by him taken out of the context he said it in would imply it. The horror of war is the sentiment of man and saints. Gahndi was no coward, but certainly non-violent. Martin Luther king was non-violent but, as brave a man as ever breathed. Wasn't it Gk chesteron who said, "rich men make war, poor men fight and die in it." I hope to continue learning the rest of my days. I am sorry but the war in iraq is senseless murder. Not to be confused with defense of our loved ones. Our government has become covered with the same blood as the murderer's they claimed to be protecting us from.

It disturbs me when people callously kill people, too. However, it doesn't mean that I don't sometimes believe in just war. Forget about the war in Iraq for the moment, as it is too complicated of an issue. As a general principle I don't think Christians should rush to war, be happy about it, take it lightly, etc. It is serious business, but sometimes it has to be done.
I can quote famous people, too.
"[Pacifists are] the last and least excusable on the list of the enemies of society. They preach that if you see a man flogging a woman to death you must not hit him. I would much sooner let a leper come near a little boy than a man who preached such a thing." - G.K. ChesteronI would recommend that you look a little bit more into the teachings of covenant theology, as you are seeming to focus on just the NT and one side of Jesus rather than looking at the whole of God's redemption throughout human history.
