Peace activists ?

Now it is time to ask the following questions. Why does the government spy on passivists? What harm can come of activist that want to stop killing. Is the government afraid of it's citizens? Is it a bit thick to spend incredible amounts of taxpayer money on survailance of the the Quakers? What about people for the ethical treatment of animals( PETA), or the  Catholic Workers,  Indianapolis Vegans, Geenpeace, or the  Animal Liberation Front(ALF), big terrorist threats? What does the Government have to fear from the Quakers? Why does the Government persist in spying on  basically passivist groups? What kind of threat, except for telling the truth? As has been succinctly pointed out in JB Krangers article on Tennessee Independent Media Center's  site when asking moderate friends ," They  have not been able to come up with anything resembling a logical explanation." Is it random acts of non-violent civil disobedience, or the stains tossed on celebrities that wear furs. Or maybe it is the trespassing at fort benning's school of the americas. What ever the threat is it has to be very big. Yea right!

Maybe it is the truth. The TRUTH? That is really scarry ? Enough to dedicate millions in assets to spying on peace activist? Has a single one of these groups ever been accused of killing people? How about human rights violations? Attacking innocent people? How many of these peace activist groups are under survailance? Why?

The question is who should the american people be afraid of NSA, the FBI or maybe the multitude of quasi- agencies in the pentagon... or the quakers, vegans catholic workers and peace activists?

pollution alert? what pollution?

'Remove any unnecessary regulatory obstacles", oh and make the Clean Air Act more industry friendly. So am I just another stupid hack or is the very agency that is charged with protecting the citizens of these United States switching sides? Sorry I thought washington was supposed to look out for the common good. obviously I misunderstood, you meant serve and protect the polluters! and thier money. Isn't it just a shame that more executives don't have children with asthma, or chronic pulmonary disease. Probably would be beneath them to spend a day with the pulminary unit that there treason and betrayal of faith fosters. The real scam they are pulling is that we already have the technologies to scrub 90 % of this at the source. God help us if these robber barons and thier minnions continue to hold the reins of power. God help us all!

another excuse for selfishness

"The fact that millions of people die from starvation every year does not automatically mean that there is a moral problem for them to do so." I am always discusted with the moralizing and justification the right throws about. If the only point is to justify selfishness then please drop the religious facade. For the known history of mankind we have been subject to such ignorance as this. Hey folks just a small hint here Jesus did not say "blessed are the rich, for you may bring all your wealth with you to heaven." I am not an eye witness mind you but I think the words were something like, " go and sell all that you have, give it to those in need and follow me." That seems to be the story best I can remember. Of course if you have spent your entire life being spoonfed this self righteous blather I can understand the confusion. It is this same crowd that thinks contraception is some how evil. The planned parenthood foes seem to think starvation is a more moral ending.
Just a few facts provided by the current census. The worlds population is better than six billion now. Before the 1950 census was less than 2.5 billion. that explosion is projected to reach 10 billion over the next 20 years. The current agricultural production is more than able to meet the caloric needs of the worlds population. There is no shortage of food! There is also no shortage of greed. The w.h.o. has the statistics do your own research there is plenty of food! Try googling francis moore lappe. Of course if we continue spreading freedom and domocracy at the rate we are going, its possible the population will fall significantly! And I will have to recant this arguement.

mushrooms

Just musing of course. I am always a bit stymied, flabbergasted by folks who seem to enjoy or even embrace with pleasure the distruction of our planet. Another truck or suv for personal transportation, just seems unpatriotic. The empirical evidence is convincing. Even bush &co. agree that climate change must be addressed. How can more vehicles that use increasing amounts of fuel be good for america? We switched to a tdi jetta running bio-diesel at my house. Guess what, it has more power than the gas burner we traded for it. If you didn't know it was a tdi ahead of time, you could not tell from driving . You would wonder where all the power was coming from. Bio-d is a renewable source. I seem to hear about the farmers that go broke alot. Growing fuel feed stock is rapidly replacing many traditional crops. The demand far outstrips the supply. Here is a means to reduce dependence and increase domestic security. It can put a losing operation in the black as well. With so many current technologies at hand, kinda makes me wonder why the energy bill does not support renewables beyond lip service. Of course the power industry would like for us all to embrace nuclear. No solution for the waste. I won't spend any time on the moral aspect. It is not in the best interest of the US. So I have to ask why is the US going down the road toward climatic degredation? We have the means to change the course. We have the technologies that are already developed. No not some off in the distant crap, but now! Did you know that the majority, that's right the majority of new cars sold in south america are flex-fuel vehicles! Alcohol and e85 blends make up the bulk of new vehicle fuel.Ethanol is a renewable fuel source. Wonder why venezuela has become so important to the US? They are a major exporter of oil. The majority of new vehicles sold in the US? Well they are not flex-fuel ready, but with a sensor and flash electronics upgrade can easily be made compliant. Lot of corn that would otherwise be wasted or stored for sillage can be used for fuel feedstock.
I urge you to go up on the mountain and listen to the existing windfarm. You may wonder why we haven't built a boatload more of them, they are quiet!

It is past time for universal single payer healthcare

A moment to consider. Are we ready for single payer health care yet? We have the most expensive healthcare on the planet. Our for profit system cost the average citizen 10,000 dollars per year. Our most vunereable citizens(elderly and children) suffer most. 46 million people with no health care coverage. Another 36 million have only state sponsored medicaid. Who pays? percentage of GDP spent on healthcare, the highest by 5%(16% total in 2000yr. dollars) of the 29 industrialized nations. The next nearest is Germany at 10.5% The highest infant mortality rate in the 29 industrialized, you guessed it the USA.The highest infant mortality rate? Yep, the usa. So is it wise to continue down the present course? Does the pharma and ama industry control congress? Yes, 68% of contributions have gone to republicans in the past election cycle. Is medicare reform good ofr anybody? Is it great for the pharma industry, hell yes! To the tune of 4 billion a year. Ask any senior you know if the act has helped or hurt????
This country needs universal single payer healthcare! The green party is the only political party calling for universal single payer healthcare! Democrats? NO Republicans? Hell NO! Check us out at www.gp.org The green party is the only party that stands up for working folks like us.

Spy what spies, Oh you mean wiretaps

So let me get this straight now. It is ok to wiretap the phones of anyone calling overseas or anyone calling from overseas. Wait, wait it is ok to wiretap anyone calling overseas that is possibly connected to Al queda or its associates? Wait , wait it is ok to wiretap anyone calling anyone that is considered a terrorist threat? Maybe the administration means that it is ok to wiretap anyone that disagrees with the administration. Ok now I get it, if the president says it is ok well the it is ok. So let me get this down correctly, if the president says it is ok to wiretap anyone then it is ok? That is right. Now I got it. Thanks.
Then if I am an american citizen, then it is ok to wiretap my phone, computer, or my person. I get to give my private information to the nsa? I should trust my government? They are looking out for my best interests? Emm.. The same group of people that took our country to war based on a lie. Wait , the same folks that captured Ossama bin Lauden.Right?!

Obcessive ? maybe

Might I leave a bit of explaining for the others. I am obcessed a bit with the clashes and struggles of men. I tend to see history as a continued story rather than a fixed event locked in the past. It troubles me that we (catholic not personal) keep acting out the same struggles that our fathers and thier fathers' fathers have wrestled with. War seem to be one of the most graphic and telling of them ,because it needlessly wastes life. So I try to tie some of the ruder observations and I hope some of the more sutble one to warfare. So much blood has been spilled on these grounds that the stories just cannot die. Here as in any nation we subject ourselves to the state and are rewarded with calls to sacrifice for the profit of a very few. I say enough! No more!
The latest reading of mine has been the civil war battles and leaders, by robert underwood johnson in 3 volumes. I tend to favor first hand accounts and recollections. We just have so many examples , and we live in such s bubble it is scarry. The words in the past couple of posts have been paraphrased quotes of soldiers in the battle. It would almost every time ring true, many lives are lost for the profit of a few.
I have attempted to point out that the current administrations zeal to go to war is misplaced. And I was struck at how the administration in the form of C. Rice was using the rendition laws to justify torture. How ironic that the case for rendition was established in the courts to control runaway slaves during the 1850s and 60s. In SECESSION! I pointed that out and gave anyone who felt the need a couple of websites to reference it. Tthen later in a comment I tried to point out Shermans vain telegraph to pres. lincoln at the fall of savannah. The waste that has become an obvious sore in iraq, I did point out the words of a union general after chattanooga,s fall in CHICKAMAUGA! where he quoted isaiah 2:4 when he refered to washington. I thought the same words were very fitting now. So yes I am obcessed a bit. I am convinced in my heart that the green party and the platform of the greens is the only sane way forward for the United States.

Chickamauga!

Braxton Bragg is gone. The Illinois boys took Missionary ridge charging uphill screaming Chickamauga!. Ulysses Grant is now in complete control of Chattanooga. Recounted to you on this cold day December the 22nd in the year of our lord 1863. How many more must die in this insatiable lust for blood. No glory is left only killing, savage struggles where there is no clear right. Only fighting and dying. So many times brother against brother and uncle killing cousins. Surely this will be the end. All the fields in valley are covered with snow, though unable to clear the blood split not long ago. Now to forge pruning hooks and plowshares. Nation shall not lift up sword against nation, neither shall they learn war anymore.

Brothers are we to commit to the beast that takes the first fruit?

Washington eats our young men, off to war for oil?

I am reminded of the words of Isaiah son of amoz,

How the faithful city has become a whore ! She was full of Justice, righteousness was lodged in heart-

but now murderers!

Your silver has become dross,

your wine is mixed with water.

Your princes are rebels and

the companions of thieves.

Secession!

Damned if they didn't go and do it. Can you believe it ? The State of South Carolina has disolved the union. Actually they voted to radify yesterday the 20th day of December in the year of Our Lord 1860. The body of the Secession will be announced on the 24th. I don't know about you, but ole Abe Lincoln is not going to take this lightly. If I were a guessing man I'd say there is gonna' be a fight. Please see the article in its original form.

http://www.yale.edu/lawweb/avalon/csa/scarsec.htm
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The same article of the Constitution stipulates also for rendition by the several States of fugitives from justice from the other States.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Notice any wording in the complaint( here's a hint: Condie Rice has been heard on the news saying it about prisoners sent overseas to be tortured) If you guessed "RENDITION" you can reach around behind you and pat vigorously. Now why is that a big deal you ask. Because the Bush administration was using the same case law to defend the act as the S.C. legislature.

To Be Continued...

Quotes?

I like to compile lists of quotes, so feel free. If you quote it, please list the person who you quote.

1."The liberty of a democracy is not safe if the people tolerate the growth of private power to the point where it becomes stronger than the democratic state itself. That in its essence is fascism - ownership of government by an individual, by a group or any controlling private power."
President Franklin Delano Roosevelt

What is a life worth? Democrats

If you think bush co. is gods gift to the nation, STOP reading! If you are a christian that follows jesus read on. If you are a conservative, this article is not for you. It will only lead to questions that disturb your finely crafted illusion. That being said,
I wanted to recap for a moment if I can. Given 2 very questionable elections? The first one by the supremes, so any further arguement in the face of the court is moot. Did to democrats go back to congress where it should have been fought for? NO, I would argue that corporate america told the dems not too. Of course the actual truth has been that al gore did win.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
http://www.americanpolitics.com/2001gore.html

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The second time in 2004. Much as I dislike saying the same thing over again. What were the dems. doing ? Possibly a few of the dems. with a conscience were wondering, what happened. It was stolen from under your noses and you did NOTHING again! Ohio was stolen, illegally and corporate america wins again!
The greens and the libertarians stand up to this, WHERE are the dems????
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

http://www.iwantmyvote.com/

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
So here we are in the middle of a war, that even the president admits is based on a lie. There is no al qeada in iraq before the war. The only reason to invade is to posses or guarantee access to oil, period. A few iraqi will be helped but mostly not. The president as much as said the effort is not going well. Water and electricity are still below prewar levels. He goes on tv and basically says "MY Way or the Highway" yet again.

Now we have the latest revolations about spying on US citizens. A few puffs of air from the dems. The same people that continue to give democrats any last vestige of moral authority. I would argue Damn little of that. It is not at all suprising to the liberals of this country. We just assume that the president and the gop are spying on us. God bless randi rhodes, she seems to enjoy poking the democrats in the eye and she is one.

The democrats have abandoned the liberals and progressives of this country! The DNC may change- the hay in the barn every once in a while, but you are still sleeping out back. I urge you to examine your conscience. I am telling you the truth. Corporate america OWNS the democratic party! Just spend a minute looking at the sources of funding.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

http://opensecrets.org/

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I want to point out that the Green Party of the United States, http://gp.org is growing by leaps and bounds. The why question is answered by the writng previous to this paragraph. I urge you to consider us. Our platform:
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Can speak to the questions of what we believe more than my lousy pen. Please look at where we are and where we are going as a people. What is a life worth, mine, yours? Do the poor of this country even matter? Are the jobs we have going to stay or leave? The union has a home with greens, how much longer will you stay with the democrats? The few progressives left in the democratic party have to be crying out. When last minute attachments to defense spending include anwr drilling can you really expect anything different to come from the hill? I urge you to join us!

My Way Or The Highway again!

I stayed awake to listen to that!?@#!? Why? This has got to be the lamest excuse for a president ever. Give me a break.! ..Please. How many ways is this criminal gonna' say My Way Or The Highway? Sir your way has gotten us over 2000 casualties. The highway you are rushing down is littered with bodies and broken dreams. Over 30 thousand iraqi dead (coservative estimate by you) and still no closer to a resolution. The country is desolving into caos! Shia iranian style theocracy in the south, kurdish independent region in the north. Sunni population in the central region everyones favorite target. Mr. president I can only pray that we leave iraq now! you have had the election, 70% turnout. They have a constitution. We gave it to them at the end of a gun. What you have accomplished in iraq is terrible destruction and the iraqi are worse off than before we went. You have that murdering savage saddam in prison. Get back to the war on terror. Where is bin lauden?
No more politics please. You are killing innocents.

The congress should move to impeach this president!

What are you going to do?

What are you going to do? the leadership of the republic has managed to convince 30% of the population that he is on the right track. Told us the economy is on the move. We have to nod our heads,Yep, headed toward india, and south of the border in a hurry. So maybe I am missing something here. Did the congress just throw us under the bus or what? Come on now zack what about it? How is giving the really wealthy a big ole tax cut right? To make problems worse you voted to take it from the folks that can not afford it. You gutted the working folks. Shame on you. Folks please look at the green party we are the party for the working folks. We endorse a living wage. We would make the economy thrive with investment in clean green technology and expand the middle class. We expect universal single payer health care to ease some of the pressure all the way across the spectrum. Wouldn't we all like to see decisions made that affect us every day decided locally? We are the party that thinks the local economy is the most important "trade "zone. The demopublicans cannot move us forwardeven if they offer to change the hay in the barn.. The republicrats would rather keep the field hands illiterate. I urge you to look at the green party. Please I implore you to vote your conscience.

Now If we only had a leader?!@#?

Here I go again, shaking my head and wondering if the nightmare is over? Yes, the endless fascination the country has with technology as the answer. I know I have not been in some kind of time warp. I did not just step into the 21st century unaware of the past 40 or so years. I read on the front page of the press, "State ranks 14th in health risk from air polution. Now that is a sad state of affairs. Of courses our representative is hard at work. Yep, Zack has suddenly descovered that the people have pocket books? Oh My!
Would not have guessed that he would notice. That PAC money covers a lot of empty wallets! Hopes???###!#? that congress will follow up with a better energy bill in 2006! Wants more tax credits ofr builders and manufacturers. More support for "Clean Coal???" technology and expansion of exploration. Zack! Mr. Wamp!! Hello? Is anybody home, ??#@! Just look at what drool and slobber you are repeating. This is the same crap over and over and over!@#! How did we get here to begin with? Did we just wake from the warp in time and discovered our dwindling resources? Or the pollution that comes with the insatiable consumption in the US? I urge you to vote green, the sooner we get real solutions in place and rid ourselves of these charlatans in dc the better off we will be.

Thank You G.Inst.

I would urge everyone to download and read the "New Vision" document from the Green Institute. The Link is http://www.greeninstitute.net/
I just feel like a fresh breeze has blown through the room when I read it. Finally some strategic policy . I am one of the first to point out what a gang of criminals currently occupies washington. Let me be among the first to say "Here is a sensible alternative."
Thank god! A coherant approach to us and the world we must live in together. Surely our common interests can take a front seat to the powerful corporations that we are being enslaved by. Please take a moment or two to read the document.

Not war but peace

I am constantly disturbed by my fellows that can be so callous, cruel with human life.
My friends, brothers and sisters in christ, I beg you please listen to what you advocate. War is a sure way to death, for a people or a nation.
I am far from an educated man, I came to the ground I stand on late in life (45yrs). I read in the gospels, mark reports christ saying, "love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you." mathew says of christ, "love your niehbor as yourself."
luke reports christ saying, "Love your enemies, do good to those who hate you." Those same words are preached over and over in the bible. the old testament is filled with the results of war, greed and lust of power. Everytime the jews have used violence the punishment has been the same. I would only point out the TEMPLE has not been rebuilt since the romans raised it . There is a 1/4 of the worlds population that testifies to that.(Islam) It is worth pointing out that everytime non violence is reported as a direct quote of christ.mathew points out how we are to deal with each other in the 18th chapter. Nowhere does it say, now be violent and go kill.

"When will our consciences grow so tender that we will act to prevent human misery rather than avenge it?"
Eleanor Roosevelt

Christ is a liberal

Too much to do, and nowhere near enough time. That statement is the timeline of my exsistence. I have this unswerving ability to find ways to say yes. Why am I going on, you wonder? I show my face regular at church, just not that often at sunday school. When I do, I inveriably run off at the mouth. Which as you probably know I do when I am awake. Regular attendance would help me I guess. Where does it say in the gospel, bomb your neighbor before he bombs you? Now I could have sworn it said Love. Does anyone other than me think something is a bit off kilter ? When is this insanity that has gripped this nation going end? Is the lust for more oil really that compelling or is it something else? Maybe the 20/80 rule has run amuck. You know 20% of the worlds population controls 80% of the worlds wealth just does not seem satisfying come to think of it. Back handed with the right hurts, turning the other cheek seems sort of masichistic. Long story short, I am looking forword to next weeks sunday school class. Christ was a liberal! I guess all those years of parochial schools I did not really pay attention.
isn't it funny most everyone I talk to says that Christ advocated non-violence . Then in the next breath say something about victory in Iraq then we can have peace.?!? I am still waiting for the Christian response? Who would advocate war in christ's name? Who can justify killing? Murder is a mortal sin! The gospels don't say anything that justifies what this government is doing. Maybe someone could enlighten me?

spoonful of sugar with it?

This is going to hurt a little, but stay with me here. I would like to point out a few lost truths that seem to be constantly ignored. Did the democrats vote overwhelmingly to abdicate their constitutional responsibilty to declare war in favor of the president or not? The answer in the congressional record is clear a shameful YES. Given all the evidence we now have before us concerning our illegal and immoral actions before and now in Iraq, where are the "progressive senators and congressional reps.",D-NY Clinton. D-CALF Pelosi, D-MASS Kerry, Murtha who? The Progressive dems are runing for cover. Massive iregularities in Ohio, That is still in court, not brought by Kerry D-MASS, no. Brought by David Cobb the Green candidate for president and the Libertarians. Who supported the bankruptcy action of 2004, oh let me see Clinton, Pelosi,Kerry. Cuts for budget tightening, trimming the social programs, continued tax cuts for the very wealthy? The Democrats have abandoned the progressive wing. A working wage for Americans,"...", empty silence. Single payer health care.... that lack of sound again. Tenncare gutted by those GREEDY republicans!???!##!! opps sorry, democrats. So what about a few moments for truth and justice, yes for everybody. Oil companies get massive welfare from washington, called the Energy bill. Didn't I read somewhere about "record profits something...?? More to come!!
