Robbed by our leaders,impeach them!
What an utter failure the administration has been. We were attacked by a ruthless criminal. He still has not been brougt to justice. We have been promised repeatedly that the homeland will be protected. After Katrina, what fool believes this rubbish? The bush co. has repeatedly sought to mislead us , buying propaganda disquised as a journalist? What family has been raised from poverty? The gulf grows wider. Has your insurance gotten any cheaper? Do you have any insurance? Do you have a lobbyist in Nashville, what about Washington,D.C.?
The corporate interests of the few, period...
Who is your representative voting in favor of? Wamp the Liar? Voting for your interests? Oh, maybe you didn't make a contribution? So sorry?
This republican party that bush co. is the head of has taken this country down the path of distruction!
Impeach Bush! Throw these robber barons out of washington.
Please have them take the spineless jelly fish democrats with them.
Folks the Green Party of the U.S. has a plan to address the environment. Working families have a chance with the greens. Local decentralized control of government is what we need , not what this administration has brought us. Look at the green platformhttp://www.gp.org/platform.shtml We have a plan to change this headlong charge toward distruction.
Check out the Greens.
Impeach bush before he gets more of our countrymen killed for oil!!

All claim one god, all claim sons of abraham
Sadly I find the level of ignorance scarry. The dumbing down of the west is pathetic. How often have we heard ignorant statements like the "islamic world is immature or the muslims just need to grow up." When the christians were burning books so they could burn thier authors on the pile, muslims were developing the experimental method in science. Arab astronomers gave us the first astrolabe used for navigation. Our understanding of celestial bodies and thier movements committed to ilkian tables when the west was defending the flat earth. Chemistry in europe would not exist if not for arabs. Geometry, trigonometry, and algebra all arab contributions.
It is frustrating and should be alarming to all of us how little we know of the world and its cultures. How very arrogant and at the same time you have to feel pity for a large part of the youth of the U.S.A.
How can we ever hope to defeat murdering criminals like bin laden? We don't know our enemy. How can we ever survive in so small a world? With so much information at hand ,still we understand less and less.

Strange, but no coverage in the US News?
The World Social Forum 2006 is happening and no coverage. A 30 second blip on the networks and cable, but no coverage? The forum meets each year as an alternative to the economic forum. It is decentralized this year and meets in Venezuela and Mali for 2006. Wonder if king george said no coverage and his corporate stooges said, yes sir. corporate media , who would have thought? Attendance of approx.1 million and it only gets 1/2 a minute in the corporate news. Wonder why?

What?
Prosecutor Will Step Down from Lobbyist Case
By Philip Shenon and Elisabeth Bumiller
The New York Times
Friday 27 January 2006
Washington - The investigation of Jack Abramoff, the disgraced Republican lobbyist, took a surprising new turn on Thursday when the Justice Department said the chief prosecutor in the inquiry would step down next week because he had been nominated to a federal judgeship by President Bush.
Watches as glen leaves keyboard shaking his head. Can anyone defend this murdering criminal administration? Is there any hope for the beloved U.S.A.?
Me thinks they just don't care? Even some of you righties, with one eye closed, have to be shaken your heads!

John Lindh, Any person who takes up arms with a foreign country, even one of our allies, is in serious - if not automatic - danger of losing his US citizenship.
The United States has a long history of Mercenary Armies and Soldiering. All of whom retain thier citizenship.Nicaraugua 1915, and again in 1977.Honduras 1978 including the merc.'s in El Salvador. Oliver North gained famed in the guerilla wars (employing mercenaries mostly) in South/Central america in the mid 70's . Cuba in 1961 was an example of recent history. The danger to taking up arms for allies is getting left high and dry by your "allies". The Bay of Pigs and Executive Solutions in Angola 1998 are a few examples. Our presence in Iraq includes Global Security by armed civilian contractors/mercenaries.
It is a misguided perspective to assert enemy combatants are anything but fighters. If they are captured on the field, they just have less protection from the victor.
Lohn Lindh should get a new Trial. The outcome is not in question. The legal questions cannot be ignored.
This is the governing part of Geneva Convention thats relavent
n the Protocol Additional to the Geneva Conventions (GC) of 12 August 1949, and relating to the Protection of Victims of International Armed Conflicts (Protocol I), 8 June 1977 it is stated:
Art 47. Mercenaries
A mercenary is any person who:
(a) is specially recruited locally or abroad in order to fight in an armed conflict;
(b) does, in fact, take a direct part in the hostilities;
(c) is motivated to take part in the hostilities essentially by the desire for private gain and, in fact, is promised, by or on behalf of a Party to the conflict, material compensation substantially in excess of that promised or paid to combatants of similar ranks and functions in the armed forces of that Party;
(d) is neither a national of a Party to the conflict nor a resident of territory controlled by a Party to the conflict;
(e) is not a member of the armed forces of a Party to the conflict; and
(f) has not been sent by a State which is not a Party to the conflict on official duty as a member of its armed forces.

John Spong nails it again
Bishop Spong hits it right on the head. Here is a response from the Bishop to Niklas. He writes some very embarrassing questions, and Bishop Spong writes some very course and accurate truth. Thank God for the Retired Bishop of New Jersey!
best regards
Niklas from Sweden writes:
"Why are Americans so preoccupied with the abortion issue when other ways of protecting human life are ignored? For instance, the infant mortality rate is more than twice as high in the US compared to my country (Sweden). It's even higher than Cuba's. How embarrassing that should be for one of the wealthiest countries in the world! (I guess it must be related to poverty and the social model that the U.S. has embarked upon). Secondly, when you point this out to Americans, they just won't believe it; they think it's some kind of propaganda. Where does all this misdirected patriotism come from? Is it Christian to believe that God has a special relation to the United States? "
Dear Niklas,
America is a religiously schizophrenic nation. We have in our history been able to combine religion with the practices of slavery, segregation, lynching and violent racism. We have in the name of the God we claim to worship oppressed women, Jews and homosexuals. The public negativity about abortion, to which you have referred, is acted out against the background of an unwillingness to embrace the fact that millions of poor children in this land do not have access to health care. That is surely one more illustration of this schizophrenia. Religion is the way some of our citizens seek personal security. That kind of religion always demands conformity to stated religious values no matter how contradictory they might be in practice. This kind of religion always seeks to impose narrow definitions on the whole society. Although history reveals that this practice never works, whenever the levels of fear become high enough this nation seems to walk down this same old road again and again. Once the society discovers itself under this kind of pressure and feels close to being overwhelmed by this kind of religious mentality, there is always a revolution to restore balance. On three occasions, in 1896, 1900 and 1908, America turned back the evangelical presidential bids of Democratic candidate William Jennings Bryan. In 1988 this nation rebuked Pat Robertson's bid for the Republican nomination. There is also still present in the American psyche a deep reservoir of the ancient Puritanism out of which so many found their way to these shores. The puritan work ethic does proclaim that if you are poor, it is because you deserve it. This means that in this nation we are always engaged politically in a class warfare struggle. Class warfare is visible when conservative administrations like the present Bush presidency, lower taxes on the wealthy and simultaneously cut welfare and medical care for the poor. That is nothing but class warfare and the wealthy are winning. At the same time, when this nation passed legislation calling for a graduated income tax and created the Social Security Program, that represented victories in the class warfare struggle for the poor. While in the political propaganda that both sides mount in this struggle declares that everyone seeks 'fairness,' the fact is that the way we tolerate unfairness in America is by denying its existence. Then something like the hurricane in New Orleans rips of the facade of that untruth and makes us face anew that this is a class oriented society. Your letter, for which I thank you, will also raise consciousness, for most Americans do not travel outside this country frequently enough to have any sense of how we are viewed by the other nations of the world, so I appreciate your letter as one that holds up a mirror so that we can look at ourselves through your eyes. History reveals that these attitudes that you describe will pass away in time. It will take an aroused electorate, however. My sense is that there is at this moment a growing negativity about the road this nation is presently walking. It is being fueled by an increasingly unpopular and perhaps an unwinnable war in Iraq, the bulging national deficit, the issue of corruption with lobbyists in the Republican controlled congress and the administrative disasters in handling both the crisis in New Orleans and the introduction of the Medicare prescription drug plan. An aroused public is growing. The beneficiary of this dis-ease may not be the minority party; it might be a more moderate part of the present majority party. We will have to wait and see.
-- John Shelby Spong

Impeach Him
Impeach Bush Now!
If the illegal and immoral war this criminal is prosecuting in our name is not enough, what is?
It is clear, that the Iraq war was planned and executed based on fraud. Deceit of the worst kind. Surely anyone that supports this monster is equally quilty. Bring our trops home NOW.
I would worry if I had to quote the 4th amendment. Currently the president has claimed the powers of war (illegal is besides the point here) authorize him to spy on anyone he wants. I expect that will change shortly. I understand the ACLU have it in court, thank god!
We will see if the cowards will continue to hide behind thier guns.
Of course if we wait on our elected official....?
Wamp will rubber stamp whatever he is told !
Zack has become addicted to the money and "power" in washington.
He lied about term limits!
He lied about PAC money!
He will continue to lie about whatever he is told!
Rubber stamp wamp!
Impeach Bush Now!

alito
It is a sad day in american jurisprudence when a hack like samuel alito gets nominated to the highest court in the land. Just what this already divided country needs, an activist judge, on the conservative side. Let's see what becomes of the precious bill of rights when this extremist gets on the bench. The right will be a injured as the left. Big business will do great! Everyone else, I am sorry for.
The right of a women to control her body. Gone! Roe v Wade is overturned.
The planned parenthood of Pennsylvainia v. Casey decision is an example of the activism run amuck! The supremes overturned alito and reaffirmed Roe v. Wade.
Racism of the worst kind.Alito was in the minority,in Bray v.MarriottHotels
It seems that alito wanted a company to be able to say"best candidate" when promoting. Big business has a friend in alito. The courts ruled against him.
Disabilty based discrimination in Nathanson v. MedicalColledgeofPennsylvania again the courts sided with common sense and decided against the narrow view of this extremist.
Striking down the family and medical leave act. the supremes overturned alito's decision( the activist judge decided the congress overstepped its authority) Nevada v. Hibbs was upheld
You can be stripped searched acording to this activist judge. The court ruled against alito! You cannot strip search a 10 year old girl, if your warrant doesn't say so. Doe v. Groody
Discrimination against immigrants, the supremes ruled against the judge twice. He ignored well established law in Ki Se Lee v. Ashcroft, and in Dia v. Ashcroft.
Call your congressman! On second thought, don't bother calling that liar. Call Sen,Alexander and express your conscience, atleast he will listen and then tell you no. Do not affirm this nominee. He is not qualified. He is an extremist!
"By far the most numerous and most flagrant violations of personal liberty and
individual rights are performed by governments ... The major crimes throughout history,
the ones executed on the largest scale, have been committed not by individuals or
bands of individuals but by governments, as a deliberate policy of those governments
...that is, by the official representatives of governments, acting in their official capacity."

Hallehulah! Governor Bredesen and the Democrats are you paying attention?
Sweet Victory: Maryland Stands Up To Wal-Mart
by Katrina vanden Heuvel
With the federal government content to let Wal-Mart run amok, it has been left up to the states to protect workers from the retail behemoth's excesses. This past Saturday, April 9, Maryland showed America's largest corporation who's boss.
Maryland's House of Delegates voted 82 to 48 to approve a bill that would require all businesses in the state with more than 10,000 employees to spend at least 8 percent of their payroll on health benefits for workers (or, alternatively, donate the funds to the state's Medicaid program). Wal-Mart, with its 15,000 employees, is the only such company that does not already spend 8 percent on health care for employees--and thus, the direct target of the bill. Spearheaded by Maryland for Health Care, the legislation was supported by a coalition of over 1,000 organizations representing Maryland's health, business, and community interests.
"We're looking for responsible businesses to ante up...and provide adequate health care," said Sen. Thomas M. Middleton (D-Charles). Republican Governor Robert Ehrlich Jr., who is expected to veto the bill, lashed out at Democratic legislators. Cowed by Rush Limbaugh's criticisms of the measure, Ehrlich claimed the bill had made a mockery of Maryland. [Note to Marylanders: when your Governor cares more about Rush's opinion than yours, you're in trouble. Thankfully though, with a wide majority of the Senate having approved the bill, Ehrlich's veto doesn't stand a chance.]
Wal-Mart's critics hope that other states will follow Maryland's lead. The Center for Community and Corporate Ethics, headed by former director of the Democratic Party's Senatorial Campaign Committee Andy Grossman, plans to distribute copies of Maryland's Fair Share Health Care Act to state legislators in all 50 states. Already, seven states are considering similar measures.
The surge of anti-Wal-Mart activity has pushed the corporation into PR crisis mode. On April 6, in its latest attempt to soften its image, Wal-Mart invited over seventy journalists to its corporate headquarters in Arkansas. And on Tuesday--responding to a newly-formed coalition of environmental and labor activists--Wal-Mart announced that it would donate $35 million over the next decade to the National Fish and Wildlife Coalition's preservation efforts.
Don't count on Wal-Mart to become another Ben and Jerry's. But, with continued pressure from activists and legislative action from the states, America's corporations could face a future in which social responsibility is no longer optional.

What difference does it make to the dead, the orphans and the homeless, whether the mad destruction is wrought under the name of totalitarianism or the holy name of liberty or democracy?

A Quest for Full Citizenship
We have been debating on a number of blogs in the past couple of days about lynching in the United States. The thread has included many discussions related to race as well. I thought I would publish some links and supporting documents concerning the abomination of lynching in this country. The exhibition at the Library of Congress, expolres and presents an interesting look at the African American population of the United States. Both the literary and pictoral graph from more than 200 years history here in the New World. The accompanying jpeg is for 1 year check out the link for a richer more detailed experience.

Enough
Just thought this might spark a few fence sitters. Surely goodness and mercy.....
Please take a moment to read the story, it speaks to the christ in all of us.
The Weight of a Snowflake
"Tell me the weight of a snowflake," a coalmouse asked a wilddove.
"Nothing more than nothing," the dove answered.
"In that case I must tell you a marvelous story," the coalmouse
said. "I sat on a fir branch close to the trunk when it began to
snow. Not heavily, not in a raging blizzard. No, just like in a dream,
without any violence at all. Since I didn't have anything better to do,
I counted the snowflakes settling on the twigs and needles of my
branch. Their number was exactly 3,471,952. When the next snowflake
dropped onto the branch--nothing more than nothing--as you say--the
branch broke off."
Having said that, the coalmouse ran away.
The dove, since Noah's time an authority on peace, thought about
the story for a while. Finally, she said to herself, "Perhaps there is
only one person's voice lacking for peace to come to the world."
